Job Summary The Yoga Instructor is responsible for creating a welcoming and supportive environment where members and guests of all experience levels can explore the physical and mindful benefits of yoga. Through thoughtful instruction, the instructor will guide participants in developing strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, body awareness, and relaxation while encouraging a positive and inclusive approach to wellness. The instructor will adapt instruction to accommodate varying abilities and experience levels, prioritize participant safety, and help create a class experience that is both accessible and engaging. As a representative of the Upper Valley Aquatic Center, the Yoga Instructor will contribute to UVAC's mission of providing high-quality fitness and wellness programming that supports the health and well-being of the Upper Valley community. Pay Range $24 - $38.48 per class Minimum: $24 Mid $ 31.24 Max $ 38.48 per class Duties/Responsibilities Greet everyone as they enter the class, introduce yourself and as many guests and members to each other as possible before, during, or after the class. Make an effort to learn names. Make sure hours are properly submitted (bi-weekly) in the payroll system in a timely manner for all classes taught. Acquaint new participants to the class format and let them know it's important for them to participate at a level that is comfortable for them Be aware of club events. Make announcements about upcoming activities at the beginning of the class to invite the people to participate. Help sell our activities and programs. Be a positive supporter of the Center. If also employed at a competitor's facility avoid discussing or comparing any programs and activities at that center while here. Monitor proper form and technique during class, paying attention to anyone who looks like they may be in physical distress Provide a fun, safe workout Change music and class routines frequently. Assure that the equipment, room, and HVAC (heat, ventilation and air conditioning) are working and clean. Report any problems immediately after class to the Fitness Director and/or Group Exercise Liaison If unable to make a class, find an appropriate substitute, then contact the Fitness Director and/or Group Exercise Liaison and let them know what has happened. Position Requirements Required Skills/Abilities High energy and enthusiasm Punctual Compassionate and ability to make a trusting connection with the class Have a passion for continued learning in the field. Take as many CEU’s as practical. Google mail, Paychex, and Netgym experience, a plus Ability to execute emergency procedures, when necessary. Education and Experience May require technical certification required for instructional specialty from an organization such as NASM, AFFA, ACE, etc. At least one year of experience teaching group classes, preferred. Recognized competency in field of instructional expertise. Must be certified in first aid, CPR and AED within six months of hire, must regain certification when close to being expired. Physical and Schedule Requirements The hours will be specific to each class that is taught, but employees for this position should have some flexibility to help when substitutes are needed. A mix of days, nights, weekends and some holidays may be required Attendance at staff meetings and trainings- paid at fitness floor attendant wage-determined at time of hire. Must arrive to start class at scheduled time.
